Today, in conjunction with “Mesyuarat Khas KPK”, I had an opportunity to visit to the Advanced Medical & Dental Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia (Institut Perubatan & Pergigian Termaju) together with all State Health Directors and Heads of Divisions. The Institute which is located at Bertam Kepala Batas, was established in 2002 upon the Cabinet approval. The Institute plays an important role in USM post graduate training for selected specialised areas in medicine and dental services. It also conducts collaborative research and various post graduate academic programmes.
In September 2004, a Clinical Trial Complex was established which houses well equipped facilities including laboratories. Among specialised services offered include women wellness, specialist medical clinic, specialist dental clinic, clinical research clinic, and advanced clinical diagnostic laboratory. The institute has set up specific clusters for research activities which include Lifestyle Science, Oncological & Radiological Sciences, Regenerative Medicine, Infectomics, Integrative Medicine and Craniofacial & Biomaterial Sciences.
The courses offered by AMDI among others are Master of Science (Oral Science) and Master of Science (Health Toxicology), Master of Science (Medical Research), Master of Science (Transfusion Science), Master of Medicine (Nuclear Medicine) and Master of Medicine (Transfusion Medicine). Until end of 2013, the Institute has produced 169 graduates.
