Press Statement

The Regional Director of the World Health Organization for Western Pacific, Dr Shin Young-soo, ends his official three-day visit to Malaysia today. In the press conference today, Dr Shin mentioned Malaysia has successfully managed to develop a modern, comprehensive and efficient healthcare system even though we spend only 4.6% of our GDP on health. He also mentioned “Malaysians should realise how lucky they are to have such a very comprehensive system”. Dr Shin also commended Malaysia for its commitment in addressing the rural healthcare system with the establishment of the various types of mobile units for example the Flying Doctor Service, the 1Malaysia mobile units like dental bus and boat services. The Regional Director also commended the dedication of staff under the Ministry of various categories in providing services at rural and remote areas. The Regional Director is also impressed of the way the Ministry manages health information of the population.
