The disastrous floods that have hit the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak have not only caused total or partial losses to more than 128 health facilities, but it has also affected close to 6000 of our own Ministry of Health staff. They too have suffered personal losses with some even losing their homes and are left only with the clothes on their back. It is estimated that their losses may amount up to RM 70 million altogether, which includes homes, electrical items, furniture and vehicles.
In conjunction with his 2015 new year message, The Honourable Minister of Health today officially launched the Tabung Bencana Mangsa Banjir Warga KKM (Flood Victims Disaster Fund for MOH Staff) (see video of the new year message and fund launch here), which aims to aid our own MOH staff that have been affected. The campaign calls upon all 270,000 MOH staff to at donate at least RM10 per person, with the MOH top management leading the way by example with donations from the Honourable Minister (RM 10,000), Deputy Minister (RM 7,000), Secretary-General and Director-General (RM 5,000 each), and all JUSA A (RM 3,000), JUSA B (RM 2,000) and JUSA C (RM 1,000). This donation drive has started since 24th December 2014, and thus far collected RM 321,500.
The Ministry would like to urge all MOH staff to donate to this fund, and help contribute in alleviating the sufferings of our MOH brothers and sisters that have been affected. Let us come together as one, and live up to our slogan of “Kami Sedia Membantu” for our very own….
